Welcome to Project GPA. By accessing or using our website and services, you agree to comply with and be bound by the following terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Project GPA, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

2. Eligibility & Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account or use Project GPA. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are 13 or older. If you are under 13, you may not use this service. If we become aware that a user under 13 has created an account without parental consent in compliance with COPPA, we will promptly delete the account and any associated data.

3. User Responsibilities

Account Accuracy: You agree to provide true and accurate information during registration.
Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account. You must complete two-factor authentication (2FA) setup as required by the platform.
Prohibited Conduct: You agree not to use the service for any unlawful purpose, or to attempt to disrupt the website's functionality (e.g., hacking or spreading malware).

4. Nature of Service

Informational Purposes: Project GPA is a tool designed to help you track and organize academic performance. While we strive for precision, calculations are for informational and record-keeping purposes and do not constitute official records issued by an accredited institution.
User Input: The accuracy of GPA calculations and transcripts depends entirely on the data you manually enter.

5. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, logos, and software used in Project GPA are the property of Project GPA and are protected by copyright laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our content without written permission.

6. Academic Records Disclaimer

This service provides a method to track courses, grades, and GPA. GPA and weighted assignments are at the discretion of the user. Project GPA makes no representations that numerical or letter grades equate to all academic grading scales.

Project GPA does not warrant, guarantee, or make representations that student transcript data will result in acceptance to any educational institution.

7. Student Data Privacy & Data Processing Addendum (DPA)

This section constitutes our Data Processing Addendum and governs how Project GPA handles student personally identifiable information (PII) and academic records.

6.1 Data Ownership

You, the account holder, retain full ownership of all student data you enter into Project GPA, including names, academic records, grades, GPA, transcripts, and documents. Project GPA acts solely as a data processor on your behalf.

6.2 Prohibited Uses of Student Data

Project GPA strictly prohibits the following uses of student data:

No Sale of Data. We will never sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer student PII to any third party for any purpose.
No Advertising Targeting. Student data will never be used to build advertising profiles, target advertisements, or be shared with advertising networks or data brokers.
No Behavioral Profiling. We do not use student data to build profiles for purposes unrelated to providing the Project GPA service.
No Unauthorized Disclosure. Student records will not be disclosed to third parties without your explicit written consent, except as required by law.

6.3 Permitted Uses of Student Data

Student data is used exclusively to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the Project GPA service as directed by the account holder
Generate transcripts and academic reports at the account holder's request
Comply with legal obligations
Respond to your support requests

6.4 Data Retention & Deletion

Student data is retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion or cancellation, all student records, transcripts, documents, and associated data are permanently deleted within 90 days. You may request immediate deletion by contacting support@projectgpa.com.

6.5 Security Measures

Project GPA implements the following safeguards to protect student data:

Encryption in Transit: All data is transmitted using TLS (HTTPS).
Encryption at Rest: All stored data is encrypted using AES-256 at the infrastructure level.
Mandatory Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): All account holders must complete 2FA setup (email code or authenticator app) to access student records.
Role-Based Access Control: Users may only access their own student records. Administrative access is strictly limited.
Transcript Integrity: Officially transmitted transcripts include a SHA-256 cryptographic hash and unique verification token that recipients can use to confirm the document has not been altered.
Audit Logging: Key actions (transcript generation, document uploads, access grants) are recorded in a tamper-evident audit log.

6.6 Regulatory Compliance

Project GPA is designed and operated with the following applicable laws and frameworks in mind:

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)

Project GPA is primarily used by homeschool educators and independent educators who fall outside FERPA's definition of "educational agencies." However, Project GPA's data handling practices are designed to align with FERPA's core principles of student data protection and parental consent. When used by accredited institutions, Project GPA operates as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA.

COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)

Project GPA collects student records on behalf of a parent or authorized educator — not directly from students under 13. The account holder (parent/educator) controls all data entry. Project GPA does not directly collect personal information from children.

California SOPIPA (Student Online Personal Information Protection Act)

Project GPA complies with California's SOPIPA (AB 1584, effective January 1, 2015). We do not sell student information, do not use it for targeted advertising, do not build behavioral profiles for non-educational purposes, and do not disclose student data except as required by law or as directed by the operator. Data is used solely to provide the Project GPA service.

Illinois SOPPA (Student Online Personal Protection Act)

Project GPA's data handling practices are aligned with Illinois SOPPA (105 ILCS 85/). We do not engage in targeted advertising using student data, do not sell student information, and provide transparency into our data practices. Operators using Project GPA with Illinois K-12 students should ensure an appropriate data sharing agreement is in place with their school district.

NIST Cybersecurity Framework Alignment

Our technical controls (encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, audit logging, MFA, and data integrity mechanisms) are aligned with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and NIST SP 800-171 guidance for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information.

6.7 Sub-Processors

Project GPA uses Base44 as its infrastructure provider for data storage and hosting. All data is stored in the United States. For a current list of sub-processors, contact support@projectgpa.com.

8. Limitation of Liability

Project GPA is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We are not liable for any errors in calculations, data loss, or academic decisions made based on the information provided by the app.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Project GPA at our discretion, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these terms or is harmful to other users.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new terms. Material changes to Section 6 (Student Data Privacy) will be communicated by email.
